Some people inherently understand the structure of a story. I remember being, like, six and my friend wrote a comic and I asked him, "Where's the rising action, pal? You gotta hit all the story beats to make it in this town." So I taught him everything about story.
That friend? Well, he went on to become a little known director by the name of Steven Spielberg.
